Taiwan through my eyes

Hi, everyone! I am Doris, a 17-year-old girl who has spent her whole life in Taiwan. Today, I am going to introduce my home country to all of you.
When talking about Taiwan, some foreign people tend to mix it up with other Asian countries like Thailand. However, Taiwan has distinct characteristics compared to many neighboring Asian countries. We have a different culture, language, skin color, and more.
Though we have differences with China, a country very near Taiwan, we are quite similar in culture. We both speak Chinese, and we share the same holidays, like Chinese New Year and the Moon Festival, among others.
On the other hand, our differences come from the religious side. Taiwan has our own gods, such as Mazu and Tudi-gong. We also have our own traditional architecture, like the Sanheyuan, which is made with red bricks. Over time, Taiwan has developed a very specific and unique culture that differentiates itself from China.
Though we are just a small island in the world, we still have many things you can visit or learn about. A place called Kenting is where you can enjoy warm weather and beautiful beaches. Tainan has many historic architectures, Taichung has lots of delicious food to eat, and Taipei is our business center where you can feel the prosperous side of Taiwan.
Everywhere in Taiwan has its own style, which can't be found anywhere else. And this is my hometown, Taiwan, where I was born and grew up. I hope this can help you know more about Taiwan!
I wish Belonging Beyond Borders becomes a place where people can exchange the cultures they love, and learn more about each country through blogs and discussions.
